Marijuana isn’t legal in Wisconsin yet, but businesses around Milwaukee are still taking advantage of pot’s unofficial holiday on April 20.
There are a lot of stories about how 4/20 came to be. It didn’t start as a police call code or as Hitler’s birthday. It was just a convenient time of day to light up. At 4:20 p.m., school (or work) is out, but you’re not expected back home. Huffington Post traced the usage to California in the 1970s.
Try CBD-infused food
In Milwaukee, products containing marijuana’s cannabis cousins are popping up after growing hemp was legalized in Wisconsin.
Jewels Caribbean Restaurant & Bar, at 2230 N. King Drive, will feature a full Cannabidiol (CBD) menu from 10 a.m. to midnight on April 20.
There will be CBD-infused Jerk Wings, Chocolate Chip Cookies, Rasta Pasta, Macaroni & Cheese Pie, Coco Butter Cocktail and Margarita, all infused with non-psychoactive CBD.
The restaurant will also host speakers who advocate for the decriminalization and legalization of marijuana, including state Sen. Lena Taylor and Eric Marsch, executive director of Southeastern Wisconsin’s chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.
The night will transition into reggae, Afropop and afro-dance performances.

Jewel Caribbean Restaurant isn’t the only place offering CBD-infused foods. Milwaukee Brat House recently started making a CBD-infused brat.
Hit up a Grateful Dead tribute
The Shank Hall, 1434 N Farwell Ave., gives a nod to 4/20 by planning a Grateful Dead party that day.
The performance will be by Mike & Friends, a vintage Grateful Dead cover band. The performance begins at 8 p.m. and costs $15 at the door.
Of course, there’s free (or cheap) pizza
Rocky Rococo’s is celebrating its 45th anniversary on April 20, an interesting coincidence.
For the anniversary, all Rocky Rococo locations are offering free pizza from open until 7 p.m. But there’s a catch, the pizza is free only for those who dress up like Rocky Rococo. A white hat and fake mustache are needed for that.
Rocky Rococo was founded in Madison and has 13 locations in the Milwaukee area.
Topper’s is reviving its 4/20 deal. Starting at 4:20 on 4/20 a triple order of Topperstix will be 50 percent off.
Toppers is hoping its Topperstix are the best edibles you’ll have all day.
The Whitewater-based pizza chain has about 40 stores across the state.
